I dont have the Mac OS cd so Ive thought about just installing Linux on it (because freegood) but Im not sure if theres a version that would play nicely with it or if I should just leave it running Mac.

But its unquestionably going to require more mucking about than if you were to run it on a PC, which your G4 is. I have an iBook G4 that runs Mac OS X 10.4. I admit I am curious as to how well linux could be made to run on an iBook. And since ubuntu is a debian derivative, this offers some cause for hope.
